5 Reasons I Love Radiology Again and Pushed Retirement Down the Road

It wasn’t one thing; it was everything. Interruptions, admin overload, staying late—radiology became overwhelming.

I was burned out and fatigued and contemplating quitting radiology altogether. Plus, I have a lot of interests outside of medicine and I knew I wasn’t accomplishing the things I wanted to do in life.

So, I started looking at options and vRad gave me control over my life again. It’s not just about delaying retirement—it’s about finding a better way to practice, at any stage.

If you’ve ever thought quitting or retiring is your only way to live a stress-free life, check out this video about how my colleague, Dr. Karo, and I found a way to do what we love for longer.

Here are some of my favorite aspects of switching to vRad:

1. A Predictable, Long-Term Schedule

With vRad, your hours are truly your hours. I know my schedule a full year in advance, so I can make long-term plans. I don’t get called in unexpectedly, and my shift ends when it's supposed to. I don’t get calls outside of my work hours anymore—that’s a beautiful thing.

2. Leave Behind the Admin Overload

After decades in traditional radiology practice, the administrative load was grinding me down. At vRad, there's no committee work, no managing your partners, no hospital politics. Just reading studies. This was a big one for me.

3. Flexibility that Accommodates Real Life

Whether it’s a last-minute change of plans, a medical procedure, or a spontaneous visit, vRad’s scheduling model gives me the ability to adjust. You can contact your scheduler when life happens, and they actually want to help you work things out.

4. A Broad Variety of Cases That Keep It Interesting

A nationwide, majority emergent practice inherently means a really interesting case mix. There are never any boring days at vRad, and that has really reignited my love for radiology. (And if you’re worried about unfamiliar studies—consults at vRad are fast and easy.)

5. Easy Onboarding, Credentialing, and Support

Credentialing across multiple states sounds daunting, but at vRad, every radiologist is assigned a credentialing specialist who does most of the legwork for you. Once my paperwork was gathered and turned in, the process was surprisingly easy.

Radiology Done Better

I had some friends tell me, you can’t stop working because you shouldn’t spoil that talent that you have. But I didn’t want to get to the end of my life and then regret not having time to do the things I love to do. With vRad, I don’t have to choose.

Whether you're feeling burned out or just ready for a change of pace, vRad offers a way to keep doing the work you love, without the parts that made you want to walk away.
