Recently, 331 radiologists provided a glimpse into vRad by participating in Gallagher’s nationally benchmarked engagement survey of 12,000 radiologists.
It’s something special when 96% of radiologists say they’re proud of the practice they work with. That isn’t the norm in my daily interviews with radiologist job candidates in my role as a vRad medical director. The radiologists I talk to are burned out, tired of carrying the weight of others, and pulled away from patient care in too many directions. They certainly don’t sound proud. Based on these conversations, I wasn’t surprised that the survey results showed vRad outperforming 87% of benchmarked organizations across all survey questions.
These results represent an array of radiologists, ranging from those who have been practicing at vRad for as little as two weeks to more than twenty years, and joining us straight out of training or after extended careers in private practice, hospitals, or academics. They’re trained in every subspecialty, from pediatrics to cardiac to neuro.
I’d like to share some highlights from the survey so you can compare these sentiments to your own work environment or consider them as you evaluate other employment opportunities.
98% say patient care technologies at vRad are more advanced than those at other teleradiology practices
Because they read remotely, our radiologists depend on vRad’s technology platform, custom-built specifically for delivering exceptional patient care in a teleradiology environment. Patient care technologies that assist our radiologists include: Powerful AI models that quickly identify critical diagnostic errors for QA team review and timely clinical correction; automated prioritization tools that reduce the turnaround time on 86% of all critical findings entering our system; Natural Language Processing that alerts our radiologists to missing clinical information, and much more. The technology at vRad works for our radiologists so they can provide exceptional patient care. Anytime. Anywhere.
100% of our radiologists say the support vRad provides helps them provide better patient care
What’s most impressive about this one isn’t just the 100% score, but the clear connection between support and patient care. This question highlights the extensive system that goes beyond typical “support” and allows our radiologists to remain focused on the images and patient care. The Operations Center team removes virtually all distractions such as getting a referring physician on the phone, or administrative tasks like tracking down missing priors. The technology teams keep systems and workstations up and running and are accessible with a single click. In terms of colleague support, a quick and efficient consult process makes it easy to discuss a difficult or unusual case with a fellow vRad radiologist. These are only a few examples.
How did our support teams earn 100% of our radiologists’ kudos for patient care? Because they do so much, and they work hand-in-hand with every single radiologist in our practice, every day.
94% say the direction of vRad makes them excited about its future
Building widespread excitement about vRad’s future first required earning trust and confidence among the 331 radiologists who participated in the Gallagher survey. Many factors shape the radiologist experience at vRad including interactions with support team members, working with the technology advancements, hearing from—and often engaging directly with—medical and executive leadership, and experiencing the culture and values.
A key reason vRad radiologists can be excited for the future of our practice is because they play a direct role! Continual radiologist feedback drives many of the platform advancements developed by our in-house technology team.
Two questions from the survey provide additional insights into this area, each receiving 94% positive responses: vRad's Executive Leadership team has a good understanding of the current issues facing radiologists and vRad's Medical Leadership team seriously considers suggestions and feedback from radiologists.
95% of radiologists responded that their association with vRad has enriched their radiology career
One of the keystones of vRad is that we try to take all the admin tasks off our radiologists’ plate so they can focus on radiology and their patients. We want our radiologists to be able to do what they love and feed their passion for patient care. Reading on the vRad platform, with support from the Operations Center teams, gives them that opportunity and our radiologists love that.
I also frequently hear from our radiologists—many of whom have been practicing for decades—that they learn so much from the inherent variety of our case mix and heavy cross-sectional modality split.
94% of our radiologists would rather be affiliated with vRad than any other teleradiology practice
One of the benefits of using a professional survey group like Gallagher is that we’re able to see how we compare to other radiology practices across the country. Overall, vRad scored higher than 87% of organizations representing 12,000 radiologists—up 26% since 2022. That is a number our entire practice is incredibly proud of because it means our radiologists are happy, fulfilled, and have professional pride in their roles here at vRad. In fact, 95% would recommend vRad to others who practice radiology.
Improving radiologist satisfaction improves patient care
One of my favorite survey results is that 94% of our radiologists would recommend vRad to a loved one who needed care. I believe that is truly telling.
We know a critical component of providing exceptional patient care comes through supporting our radiologists. There’s always more we can and will do, but these survey results show that we’re on the right track. My goal is for every radiologist at vRad to love their job, to know they're providing excellent patient care, and to be both personally and professionally fulfilled. The medical leadership team understands that’s our responsibility. Surveys like this are important to check if our efforts are having an impact, and then to set a new, higher bar.
Together, we’ll continue making vRad a place where each of us can thrive and work toward our mission to bring exceptional radiology care to all patients. Anytime. Anywhere.
