Teleradiology Myth: Every Radiology Practice Has a Minimum Reading Rate
1:40

Every day, from residency through private practice, I was assigned a list and expected to get through it. Whether it was a slow day or there was a surge in the ER, the message was always clear: keep up, no matter the cost.

Skipping meals, delaying bathroom breaks, taking the stress home with me … I thought that was just part of the job. I didn’t think there could be another way.

I was completely wrong.

vRad’s shared worklist means no one has a minimum reading rate, because radiologists working that shift are all sharing the work. The list never depends on the speed of one radiologist. It never depends on me. That makes a huge difference.

Here’s how life changed:

  • No more performance pressure: There are no minimum productivity requirements. If I read more, I earn more. If I need to slow down, take a break, or log off for a while, no one calls.
  • Freedom to focus: I read cases at my own pace. If I’m in the zone, I keep going. If I need to take care of something in my personal life, I pause. In both cases, no pressure.
  • No more dread: I used to sit in the hospital parking lot, mentally bracing myself for the worklist waiting inside. That feeling is gone. I actually enjoy reading again.
  • Supportive culture: No one at vRad ever calls to assign shifts or demand faster reads. I work hard, but on my own terms.

If you’ve ever thought, “I wish I could just read at my own pace without interruptions,” that radiology job exists. That job is vRad.

Reach out to a recruiter (and feel free to mention my name to speak with me personally), to hear what it’s like to escape the spinning wheel of endless work, so you are in control again.
