Teleradiology Myth: You’ll Always Have to Stay Late
1:17

In private practice, before I moved to vRad, staying late was expected, and I felt a constant, heavy pressure to always be available to pitch in, even on vacation. It was awful, but it was also the norm. I worried that switching to teleradiology would only make it worse. My workstation is right there, so why not just log back in?

I’ve heard from some of my colleagues that it is that way at some teleradiology practices. But that’s absolutely not how it works at vRad. In reality, everything got better.

When my shift ends, I shut down my workstation computer and I’m done. No guilt. No pressure. No one expecting that I will stay late or take “just one more” case. I spend time with my family, cook a nice meal, and live my life.

Here’s what makes the difference:

  • If I choose to stay late, I get paid at a higher rate, because my time is valued.
  • Bonus shifts (with bonus pay!) are offered, not assigned. I decide if I want to opt in.
  • No one ever calls to ask me to be faster. I’m trusted to do my job well.

When I get together with other vRad radiologists, we often sit and talk about how we’re never, ever going back to our old jobs. This is just one reason why.

You can hear more stories from vRad radiologists on our new radiologist careers page.
